FAQ: Rebonding hair care

How long after rebonding can I take a shower or bath?

You should wait at least 3 days before shampooing your hair. It's okay to shower or bathe provided you don't wash your hair (wear a shower cap). This is because the chemicals applied during rebonding are still active for up to three days.

What products are safe to use on my rebonded hair?

Products that help add and keep moisture in your hair are generally safe. This includes conditioner and moisture hair mask. A moisture hair mask will protect your hair better than conditioner, and most salons will recommend it after a rebond. You should still wait at least 3 days before using any products on your hair.

Can I have other treatments done after rebonding?

Cellophane (also known as henna wax or cellowax) is okay to use after rebonding. Because hair cellophane works to repair and seal hair, it is a safe treatment after rebonding. It can color your hair as well as protect it.

Hot oil is also safe to use because it moisturizes the cuticle layer (outside layer of the hair). Hot oil washes out quickly, so it may be worth it to use cellophane which washes out after 8 to 12 rinses.

As a rule of thumb, it's best to wait a few months before using any other treatments to your hair. Coloring treatments with ammonia or peroxide are especially a big no-no. Any treatment with harsh chemicals should be avoided for 3 to 6 months.
